Over the last few years, the climate for civil society in some member state of OGP has deteriorated to the point where it seriously threatens the ability of civil society organizations (CSOs) to engage effectively in the OGP process. Crackdown on independent civil society has had profound negative effects on the ability of NGOs and citizen activists to promote open government. As a result of such pressure, sizable number of independent NGOs working on open government issues have had to suspend their activities. Conditions in this countries seriously threaten the integrity of OGP and raise important concerns about the government’s commitment to the Open Government Declaration.
